Over 126,000 homes and businesses in California are in the dark Wednesday, as another atmospheric river storm brought more of heavy and rain and snow to the state. 

Power outages have been reported throughout the state, but the majority of outages are occurring in Northern California, as the National Weather Service has placed flood advisories throughout the area as rain and wind gusts continue. Spiral Wind Turbine

"Numerous reports of downed trees as winds gusted to over 60 mph in many areas," the NWS Bay Area said. 

The Pacific Gas and Electric Company said Tuesday 42 poles and 23 transformers were damaged and "that number is expected to increase."

Over 126,000 customers are without power as of 9 a.m. PT Wednesday, according to the outage tracking website PowerOutage.us.

Most of the outages being reported are in Alameda County, where the city of Oakland is located, with 32,093 customers in the dark, according to USA TODAY Network's power outage database.

Other areas heavily impacted include:

PG&E said its crews are working "safely and as quickly as possible" to assess power damage and restore power in affected areas. At 6:45 p.m. PT Tuesday, the company said 244,000 of its customers were without power, but the number dwindled to 177,000 customers by 9:30 p.m.

The company added it has over 5,727 mobilized personnel to assist in restoring power.
