Runner-Up Ambar Dishes like prosciutto Benedict, shrimp omelet, and cinnamon sweet sourdough prove that gustatory delights know no borders, even at the first meal of the day. For just one price, you can eat your way through the Balkan menu, with dishes whizzing to your table moments after you request them. It’s even better than a buffet. 2901 Wilson Blvd., Arlington

Winner Kalypso’s Sports Tavern You won’t have to go as far as Greece to get water views and a taste of the Mediterranean—here, you can indulge in fresh favorites like falafel and souvlaki from the patio, where views of Lake Anne set the mood and regular events like karaoke and trivia keep it interesting. 1617 Washington Plz. N., Reston

Editor’s pick Charred A local supplier brings in the beef, but this burger joint is in rarest form when it comes to toppings. Diners can crown their dry-aged patties with everything from truffle mayo to pickled ramps to brie. But don’t worry—it’s not all highbrow. It’s one of the few places in our region to offer an Alsatian tarte flambée, but when we’re really celebrating, we’re just as likely to order the foie gras torchon with lingonberry jam. 311 William St., Fredericksburg

Runner-Up Clarity If novelty is the key to romance, this is the place. Chef Jon Krinn always has something new up his sleeve. That could mean anything from a tasting menu stacked with goodies like venison tartare and A5 wagyu to a romantic lunch à deux featuring housemade pasta. 442 Maple Ave. E., Vienna

Winner Anita’s Visit Anita’s to branch out from a breakfast rut; the early-morning fare at this local New Mexican restaurant is spicy, smoky, and anything but boring. Coglianese started co-hosting WMAL’s Mornings on the Mall in 2017—it has since reached No. 1 in the DC market.

Doreen Gentzler, NBC4 A perennial favorite, Gentzler is a NoVA native—she grew up in Arlington—and has spent 30 years behind the desk, so she knows the area like the back of her hand. Even on her off hours, she’s usually still exploring the region, biking the W&OD Trail.

Jim Handly, NBC4 It’s pretty clear which channel Northern Virginia magazine readers are turning to when they finish work, and maybe that’s because the team is helmed by two long-haulers. Since 1992, Handly has led NBC4, and when not on air, he’s often exploring Middleburg’s foodie culture.

Alex Ovechkin, Washington Capitals One of the greatest scorers of all time is so beloved by the region that his popularity apparently transcends global politics. Plus, he’s a family man off the ice, sharing two sons with his wife Nastya.

Ron Rivera, Washington Commanders Ron Rivera has seen the team through multiple name changes, and while they haven’t been the best years for the team, Rivera has served as a steady presence. Here’s hoping he can help the newly minted Commanders find their identity (and their footing).

Elliot in the Morning, DC101 The cultural clout of the morning DJ isn’t what it once was, but the shock jock seems like it may be here to stay. In the DMV, the go-to is Elliot Segal and The Class, as it has been since 1999. There are, of course, gross-out stunts, but (as you tell your co-workers when they find out you listen to it) the interviews with celebrities are actually really good.

Eun Yang, NBC4 Starting at 4 a.m. every weekday, Yang is on our TVs, a beacon of early-morning good vibes. She’s proud of her Korean heritage and says that her perfect day includes Korean barbecue in Annandale, followed by a visit to Shilla Bakery for shaved ice.

Bill Hemmer, Fox News Hemmer is apparently popular enough among NoVA audiences that, even though he’s based in New York, he’s the region’s favorite news anchor. Maybe it’s the fact that he participated in Fox’s Democracy 2021: Virginia Showdown, covering Glenn Youngkin’s earth-shaking win in the governor’s race.

Doug Kammerer, NBC4 There’s one local voice we trust above all others to chime in and tell us whether to bring our umbrella or not to worry—sunny skies ahead! Kammerer once again picked up the prize in this category.
