Cuban sandwiches were born in Ybor City and are now popular as a delicious bento lunch for cigar factory workers.

What's happening: As chefs become more creative with our signature sandwiches, the core ingredients of mixto—ham, salami, Swiss sausage, pickles and mustard—are appearing on menus across the country.

🥖 Why it’s important: If Tampa Bay has a flavor, it’s Cuban sandwiches, and it’s creating a trend.

Flashback: The traces of the sandwich go back to the Taino tribe in Cuba, who stuffed fish and birds into two thin slices of casabe bread. Since then, it has been in a state of transition.
