If you're looking to be the best dressed wedding guest this season, take inspiration from the Princess of Wales.

When you think of "Princess Diana at a wedding," it's hard not to picture her iconic taffeta gown. After her engagement to Prince Charles, Diana soon became the most famous woman in the world—so her status as a guest at one's wedding was highly coveted.

Her wedding guest style favored tailored suit dresses, always with a matching hat. She often picked bold colors—bright blue, pink polka dots—and she always stood out.

Now that weddings are back in full swing after a pandemic-imposed lull, finding the perfect wedding guest dress is a constant struggle. Yet, Princess Diana is here to save the day: Take inspiration from the Princess of Wales's statement suits, hats, and monochrome outfits that she wore as a guest to weddings in the '80s and '90s.

A month before their wedding, Princess Diana (then Lady Diana Spencer) and Prince Charles attended the wedding of Nicholas Soames and Catherine Weatherall. Diana wore an all-red look, with her polka dot dress matching her pumps and hat.

Charles served as the best man, and Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother were also in attendance at the nuptials.

At the 1982 wedding of her former flatmate Carolyn Pride, Diana opted for a pink sailor-style dress, with a white collar and hat, and she carried a matching white clutch.

She had just given birth to Prince William less than two months earlier.

Another one of Diana's former flatmates, Anne Bolton, got married the following year. Anne married Noel Hill, the son of Prince Charles's polo coach. To their wedding, Diana wore a chic gray striped suit with statement shoulders.

For this summer wedding of Lady Carolyn Herbert, the daughter of Queen Elizabeth's racing manger, and John Warren at Highclere Castle (a.k.a. the real life Downton Abbey), Diana chose a pink polka dot wrap dress and a matching hat. She also wore a pearl choker necklace—a favorite of hers.

At the royal wedding of her brother-in-law Prince Andrew to Sarah Ferguson, Diana chose a bright blue polka dress with black polka dots, and completed the look with a matching hat.

Diana showed off the look as she held Prince Harry on the balcony of Buckingham Palace following the ceremony.

A year later, Diana chose this striped suit by Roland Klein for the wedding of Queen Elizabeth's equerry Major Hugh Lindsay to Sarah Brennan. Tragically, Lindsay died a year later while on a ski trip with Prince Charles in Klosters, Switzerland.

Diana stunned in a turquoise jacket by designer Catherine Walker at this 1988 society wedding of Rupert Soames, the grandson of Winston Churchill, and Camille Dunne.
