A pervert who tried to snatch a little girl from a primary school was wearing earrings, purple nail polish, a distinctive ring and a twisted bracelet.

South Australian Police are on the hunt for the masked man who strolled into Glenelg Primary School in Adelaide about 10am on Tuesday, as classes were in progress.

Witnesses said the child abductor walked up the stairs and grabbed the Year Four student from a hallway after watching her under a toilet stall.

The terrified 10-year-old was dragged downstairs, kicking and screaming - before she managed to escape.

But fresh details have emerged on Thursday of the man's description, with the victim providing a investigators with a precise description.

A Year Four student from Glenelg Primary School (pictured) managed to escape from a man who attempted to adduct her from school on Tuesday

She said he had purple nail polish on one thumb, a black ring with bright dots on the painted thumb, two earrings in one ear and a twisted bracelet.

This adds to the description officers already have of the suspect, who is described as being about 180cm tall (or 5'11), bald and wearing a long, light blue shirt, black pants, a black face mask and carrying a beanie.

Police rushed to the primary school after receiving a report of an attempted abduction but were unable to locate the culprit.

Officers returned to the school on Thursday morning and spoke with staff and students who were at Glenelg Primary School at the time of the attempted kidnapping.

Officers attended the school on Thursday and spoke with staff and students who were around at the time of the attempted kidnapping. Police are still searching for the suspect

On top of speaking with staff and students, detectives said in a statement they had also 'conducted extensive door knocks and viewed a significant amount of CCTV footage in the area'.

'There is a significant police deployment in the area around the school,' said SA Police assistant commissioner Scott Duval in a press conference.

'Our efforts are going towards finding this man and holding him accountable for his actions.'

Police are urgently asking anyone who might have seen the man near the Diagonal Rd school or was driving nearby and has dashcam footage to contact them so they can examine it.

The school said the matter was with SA Police in a letter to parents (pictured)

A fellow student told The Adelaide Advertiser the suspect had looked at the girl under a toilet stall before he tried to grab her.

She said she had no clue who the man was and that she did not want to go back to the school because she was scared.

Security guards have been stationed outside the school as of Wednesday afternoon.

Glenelg Primary School principal Shane Misso wrote to parents on Wednesday informing them the matter was in the hands of SA Police and the SA Education Department.
