NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. — A North Fort Myers woman is asking for your help in finding a butterfly necklace that holds her husband’s ashes.

“Butterflies represent our loved ones watching over us,” Melinda Maner said.

Outside of working at AMVETS Post 50 in North Fort Myers, Maner is searching for another job.

“Job to job, application to application,” she said.

But now, that’s not the only search she’s on. She is also looking for a necklace.

“A sterling silver butterfly,” Maner said, describing the necklace. “It has one loop on the top that is literally the cork that screws it closed, and the wings have amethyst birthstones.”

For Maner, it is not just a necklace.

“I feel lost without it besides the fact it has his ashes in it, so it makes it even more special,” she said.

Melinda thinks she lost her necklace while walking in Downtown Cape Coral. She said it must have happened when she brushed what she thought was a bug. But then her necklace was gone when she got home.

“Not everyone can look at it and tell it was an urn, they might just think it’s a butterfly pendant,” Maner said.

She said it feels like her husband Grady is close by when the butterfly pendant is draped along her neck.

“Like when I needed some advice, or just help me out with this job interview, you know,” she said. “I was always touching it.”

She lost him three years ago on May 2.

“We were best friends,” she said. “20 years isn’t long enough.”

Her Facebook post has reached over 900 shares. She is asking for help to locate the necklace.

“If somebody has it, I’d love to have it back,” she said.

She will not give up hope. She knows it will be back in her hands one day.

“Just how amazing people can be if somebody actually has it and is willing to give it up and give it back to me,” she said.
