A pest control worker was sentenced to jail for allegedly stealing $7,400 worth of jewelry from the homes of visiting villagers.

Earlier this month, a woman in Piedmont village went to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in Mulberry Grove after she discovered that she had lost valuable jewels in her home. Jewelry includes a pendant necklace with a gold chain and diamonds, valued at US$4,000; a 1 1/4 carat diamond wedding ring with yellow diamonds around the ring, valued at US$3,000; and a gold cross and set with a value of US$400 Emerald necklace.

According to an arrest report, she said that a pest control worker from the Advanced Pest Control Center recently visited her home.

According to the report, an investigation led to a senior pest control employee, 26-year-old Speed Quantez of Ocala, "pawning an unusual amount of jewelry in the past few months." These jewels include several women's wedding rings, a men's high school ring from 1951, a women's college ring from 1953, and several chains. A pawnshop employee expressed doubts about this, but Quantez explained that his “grandparents passed away recently and he received a huge inheritance.” The villagers’ wedding rings were traced to the pawnshop. He pawned 650 dollars.

Quantez was arrested on Thursday on charges of theft, fraud and providing false information to a pawnbroker. He was taken to Marion County Jail with a security deposit of $12,000.
